On-Call Editing partners with clients to take them from conception to reality and achieve their editorial goals. The ideal freelance team member understands that each person and their need is unique. Editing and proofreading is an entry into making a difference in the dreams of our clients. So we do what is best for them; we stay in communication and help however we can, even if it’s to recommend some other service to them. By treating our clients as we would want to be treated, we are ensuring their trust and desire to continue working with us as well as to refer us to others.

 

Minimum skills required:

• Understanding of proofreading marks

• Proficiency in grammar, punctuation and spelling

• At least basic copy editing skills (i.e. completed education/training                                                                                                           or have done some editing work, whether paid or volunteer)

I recognize that getting started as a copy editor can be a challenge. I have never forgotten my start over 20 years ago and it is my desire to not only serve my clients above what they expect, sharing the value of editing with them, but I seek to help entry-level freelance editors to grow and seasoned editors who have been out of the game for a while to renew their skills and continue on their path. On-Call Editing offers on-the-job training, flexibility and the opportunity to be part of a start-up organization. That means there are few boxes here to settle into. Everyone must be comfortable coloring outside the lines.  A job description can never fully convey what I am seeking in a team member, so a video discussion is warranted.
